Applemoon Interiors was started in 2007 by me - Kim Hayman, I am 45, Mum of 3 boys, Elliott , Louie and Finley and happily married to Mark since 1995. My mum taught me to sew as a child. She was always making things, clothes, curtains, quilts even a wedding dress! and her confidence in trying new projects was infectious. In 2002 I was working in a Laura Ashley Home store developing a love for all things 'interiors' when my parents decided to move abroad to Canada. To keep myself distracted from them leaving I signed up for a curtain making course, I was also slightly panicky about who I could ask to help me make things for my home without my Mum around!
I passed my course with some really lovely feedback and shortly after a friend asked me to make her curtains. I never intended to start a business it just sort of happened! I got recommendations and referrals and the work started to come in with such regularity that I decided to register as a business, and here we are today.
Where we are today -
I have gone from sewing curtains on my living room floor, then into a purpose built cabin in the garden, then I decided to rent gorgeous flint barn just outside Arundel which I occupied for a year before realising that I need to be more visible, so in 2014 I opened my shop in Westergate which is situated on a very busy road.
Today I have a dedicated retail space just 10 minutes from Chichester which houses over 500 fabric books to browse through, along with curtain pole samples, trimmings, paint charts and wallpapers as well a selection of interiors products. We have sample curtains on display so you can see the quality of our work close up.
I also now offer an interior design and space planning service that really takes the stress and legwork out of putting together a design scheme for your home. This is a really fun part of the job and one that I thoroughly enjoy. The feedback I have received from clients on this has been terrific, and it's not always as expensive as you may think!
The Team -
I now have a fantastic team to help me, Dawn and Kim who have their own workrooms make all of the curtains. Abby is the Soft Furnishings manager and she runs the shop day to day and makes all of the blinds right here in the shop. Lucy is the Office manager and keeps the paperwork in order as well and getting involved in some if the design work. Together we provide the most beautiful hand finished soft furnishings made to your exact specifications. We also have Jon and Mike who undertake all of the fitting and installation of your curtains and blinds, with over 65 years of experience between them.
AND...in 2015 I won the Chichester Business Awards Small Business of the Year!
